Komen VT-NH Race for the Cure Announces $418,844 in Grants

MANCHESTER, VT – Terri Hathaway, Chair of the Vermont-New Hampshire Susan G. Komen for the Cure Grants Committee and Co-Chair Andrea Kaplan are pleased to announce that, thanks to funds raised at the 2010 Susan G. Komen VT-NH Race for the Cure®, and other monies raised throughout the year, the Affiliate was able to award $418,844 to 15 community-based breast health programs, bringing the total sum of monies awarded locally for breast cancer education, screening and treatment to $5.7 million since 1993.

 

This year’s grants went to: 14th Annual Breast Cancer Conference, Vermont Cancer Center, UVM College of Medicine, Burlington, VT; Access to Care for Breast Cancer Patients at Home and in the Community Hospice House, Home Health & Hospice Care, Nashua, NH; Camisole & Cancer Treatment & Support Books, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, VT; Central Vermont Medical Center & People's Health & Wellness Breast Care Program, Central Vermont Medical Center, Barre, VT; Community Breast Health Project, Neighborhood Connections, Londonderry, VT; Educate, Treat and Prevent Breast Cancer Program, Southwestern Vermont Medical Center, Bennington, VT; Education & Outreach Project 2011, Breast Care Program, Rutland Regional Medical Center, Rutland, VT; Emergency Fund, Cancer Patient Support Program, Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, VT; New Hampshire/Vermont Emergency Fund, Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, Lebanon, NH; North Country Breast Cancer Outreach Project, North Country Hospital, Newport, VT; Northshire Women's Breast Cancer Support Group, Manchester, VT; Porter Hospital Collaboration with the Open Door Clinic, Porter Hospital, Middlebury, VT; Renewing the Spirit, Forest Moon, Guilford, VT; Retreat & Networking Events for Women with Stage IV Breast Cancer, Cancer Patient Support Program, Fletcher Allen Health Care, Burlington, VT; Vermont Breast & Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program, Vermont Department of Health.

 

Appropriate non-profits that meet certain criteria may apply for Small Grants (up to $2,000), Conference Grants (up to $5000) and Travel Scholarships (up to $1000 domestic; up to $2000 international) throughout the year by visiting komenvtnh.org and clicking on Grants.

 

Through events like the Komen VT-NH Race for the Cure, the VT-NH Affiliate has netted more than $7.5 million in 18 years. Of that, more than $1.8 million supported Komen’s research program and more than $5.7 million underwrote breast cancer education, screening and treatment in Vermont and New Hampshire.
